Personal Information and photo links below :
- John Kelly, listed as father of Robert Kelly on Robert's record of marriage to Matilda Jane Wright
- Maria Thistle, of Carrowbeg, remembered by her great-grandson
James Kelly.
- Charlotte McFarland, born about 1836 (from 1901 Irish census) or 1834 (from death registration), married Joseph Kelly
on 9 Feb 1854 in the Ballygawley Church of Ireland (* Emerald Ancestors), this couple having 7 children:
James, Maria Matilda, Mary Ann, Charlotte, Emily Jane, Joseph, and Andrew John (from Will of her husband).
Charlotte's Will is available. Charlotte died 19th June 1909,
(from her headstone at Eglish Presbyterian Church, below). According to Fred Wilson, Charlotte was known as
"Widow Kelly" because she lived many years after the death of her husband. [Photo of Charlotte]
- Joseph Kelly, born about 1811, married Charlotte McFarland on 9 Feb 1854 in the Ballygawley Church of Ireland,
this couple having 7 children: James, Maria Matilda, Mary Ann, Charlotte, Emily Jane, Joseph, and Andrew John.
Joseph (Sr.) died 1883. [data from the Will of Joseph Kelly
and his headstone at the Eglish Presbyterian Church, below]
- Robert Kelly.
PRONI possess a Will for a Robert Kelly of Knocknacloy (who died October 1912)
in which he gives his possessions to James Kelly, but the Will is not displayed on PRONI's website yet.
A "Robert Kelly" is named as an Executor in the
Will of his brother Joseph Kelly.
Fred Wilson states (by email in November 2013) that this Robert Kelly is the same
as the Robert Kelly who married Matilda Jane Wright,
daughter of Charlotte's sister Catherine. Fred writes that he has made the conclusion that
Joseph and Robert were brothers because
- They are both from a very small townland called Knocknacloy
- They are both Presbyterian
- Robert is down as executor of Joseph's will.
- My Uncle John Wilson (died at 91 in Aug 2012) said that the 2 Kelly families
were related and
- James Kelly who lives in the old farm (Roberts) told me they were related.
- James Kelly, born about 1856 (from the family headstone below), died 1 June1883
- John Wilson, born about 1848 (from 1901 census below), married Maria Matilda Kelly (before 1882)
- Maria Matilda Kelly, born about 1859 (from 1901 census below), married John Wilson at
Eglish Presbyterian Church on 31 March 1880 (*Emerald Ancestors).
Maria Matilda's sister Emily Jane Kelly describes
(in 1956) the status of several of Maria's children and grandchildren. Maria Matilda is
mentioned in the Will of her aunt Martha McFarland. Possible photo as infant

- Lila (= Elizabeth ?) Wilson. The Will of her mother Charlotte mentions
a daughter of Maria Matilda Wilson named "Elizabeth". In 2013, Norah Brown-Davis suggests that "Elizabeth"
and "Lila" are likely the same. Lila is also mentioned in a letter from her aunt Emily Jane

- Mary Ann Kelly, born 17 Feb 1866 in Benburb, County Tyrone, Ireland. This birth date conflicts slightly with the 1911 census (below), in which
"Mary Ann" is shortened to "Minnie". The Eglish Presbyterian Church provides
a record of the marriage on 24 March 1891 of Mary Anne Kelly to James Wright, who is
probably a son of Andrew Wright, nephew to Charlotte's sister Catherine.
Mary Ann is mentioned in her mother's Will, as well as Mary Ann's daughter Sarah Olivia.

- Joseph Kelly, born 5 Apr 1870 in Benburb, County Tyrone, Ireland
(his short Will). His family
headstone, below, implies he was born about 1882
- Emily Jane Kelly, born 22 Nov 1873 in County Tyrone, Ireland.
Comments by Renee McCormick in email of 3 Sept 2012:
Emily married Hugh Best in America. Her family did not approve of Hugh so
she went off to America, he followed her out there and they were married. They had two sons,
Thomas and Edwin, neither married and both are now dead.

A letter from Emily Jane Kelly was sent in 1956 to Thomas A. McFarland. This
letter mentions "Lila Wilson" and "Maria's Martha", both granddaughters of Charlotte (McFarland) Kelly. Her letter
implies that she was beyond the age of 82 (born before 1874). Irish censuses indicate Charlotte's daughter Emily
was born 22 Nov 1873. Among other references to people near her home in
Caledon, Emily writes "There will soon be nobody here at all, but they may all find a change. Far away
fields are green", which implies that in 1956, all descendents of the above people were either
beyond reproductive age, or had moved away from County Tyrone (one to Canada). Emily mentions her son "Tommy"
who had a farm in Comber.
- Andrew John Kelly, mentioned in both Will of his father (Joseph Kelly)
and the Will of his mother Charlotte
- Charlotte Kelly, daughter of Charlotte (McFarland) Kelly, mentioned in the
Will of her father (Joseph Kelly) . Roots Ireland
has an 1887 civil marriage record from County Tyrone for Charlotte Kelly (father Joseph) and Johnston Irwin.
Her mother's Will lists a granddaughter named
Ethel Mary Irwin (born c. 1889). The 1901 Irish census lists Ethel as a granddaughter of the head of the
household, who is 82-year-old Mary Irwin; this 1901 census also lists Ann Jane as a "daughter" (of Mary).
In the 1911 census, Mary has died, Ann Jane Irwin (single) is now the head of household, and Ethel is now a "neice" of
Ann Jane (not a daughter). There is also a 1907 civil death registration for Charlotte Irwin, estimated birth year 1857.
Further discussion of this problem is presented with two Irwin Wills,
but a natural interpretation of the Census data and RootsIreland searches is that the younger Charlotte Kelly had a daughter
Ethel by Johnston Irwin, and a son by Johnston's brother William, and that both kids were raised by the spinster
sister Ann Jane Irwin in Carrowbeg, Tyrone.
There is a 1919 civil record of marriage of Ethel Mary Irwin to Andrew Morgan Wilson. Some of their children
might still be alive in 2013. A full record of this marriage might reveal the names of Ethel's parents.
- Joseph Wilson, married Mary Jane (Minnie) Morton, this couple having 5 children: John, Maria Matilda (Tilly), Joseph (Joe), James (Jim), and Henry Morton (Harry)
- Henry Morton Wilson (Harry), married Elizabeth ////////mary (Beth) McKinley, this couple having 8 childen: David Henry (a twin), David's stillborn twin (unnamed), Frederick Joseph,
Timothy John, Sharon Elizabeth, Lydia Mary Ruth, Samuel James, and Deborah Joy.
- Frederick Joseph Wilson (son of Henry Morton Wilson), married Marli Oliveira Andrade, this couple having 3 children who are still living in 2017. Frederick Joseph is the source
of much information on his branch of the Wilson family.
- John Alexander Wilson ( = "Jack"), married Norah Bollard, this couple having at least 4 children. After Norah's death, John A. Wilson
married Ethel Catherwood, this couple having no children. (this data from Norah, a granddaughter)
- Henry Catherwood Anderson, married Muriel K.
Evelynn Cartwright comments as follows on the birthplaces of the above children:
I think [Joseph Jr's] birth is listed in the [Benburb] church records
but he would be born at Knocknacloy: Joseph Kelly, (father) Knocknacloy is listed in
Griffith's Valuation for abt 1860 Clonfeacle Parish. Children were born at home then. Knocknacloy
was 2.4 miles W of Benburb. Benburb was a place and Townland. Originally there was a Presbyterian
Church and cemetery about 1 mile out of Benburb. I believe Benburb was the Registration District for the area.
A marriage certificate exists (through FHL) showing Andrew McFarland as father of Charlotte.
The Will of Joseph Kelly is available, naming his children.
Later in life, Charlotte lived with her sister Martha (see 1901 census below)
* Much of the data and photos on this page was contributed by Evelynn Cartwright of Canada using Emerald Ancestors, Ancestry.Com, and PRONI website,
especially the contents of various Wills and data from the 1901 and 1911 Irish censuses. The Rev. David Brown at the Eglish Presbyterian Church provided data
on the marriage of Mary Ann Kelly. Norah Brown-Davids and Fred Wilson contributed data on their branches of the family; Norah contributed digital photgraphs used in this page.
