the late John George Neno, wool spinner, and of Anne Marie Misen his wife, and Anne Neno,
young woman of age, born about twenty seven years ago, of John Neno also wool spinner,
and Elizabeth Schneider his wife, all of Berus, were betrothed and married at the church
of Berus, after having previously obtained permission to marry from the Lieutenant
Colonel Commandant of the said Regiment the tenth day of the same month, the Dispensation
of the second to second degree of consanguinity by the Holy Father Clement the fourteenth
the thirtennth of September, executed by Mr. Desaintignon, general official of Metz the
eighteenth of October, the Dispensation of two Bans granted by his grace the Bishop of
Metz the same day, that the pledge of their marriage was duly published for the first,
the second, and last time, at the sermon of the parish mass of Berus, without any
opposition, with the unanimous consent of all the parties, before me the undersigned
Priest of the Parish of Berus, who blessed their marriage and by virtue of the Apostolic
Letter addressed to the said official of Metz declared their children born, and to be

Michael Neno came to the U.S.A. in the early 1830s.
He married Catherine Berwanger in 1836 at St. Louis' Church in Buffalo, N.Y.
The following seems to be a baptismal record in Latin. Mormon Church scans of the original handwritten
record were transcribed by Paul Doherty, and re-typed into this digital record by
Tom McFarland in 2003. In 2005, Prof. James McKeown, a Latin scholar at the University
of Wisconsin in Madison, was consulted for translation. It was decided that some letters were not
copied correctly, and/or the original author in Berus, Germany, did not know Latin very well. Thus, below are
