M.A.A. Chapter Constitution

Association
Purpose: To provide students majoring, minoring, or just interested in math with information pertaining to the math
field. To encourage, and inform about the use of math in every aspect of life.
Membership: Membership of national organization will run one full
calendar year. Membership of local organization will run one academic year.
Membership Qualifications: Active membership shall consist of paying
dues in a timely manner and participation in half of all chapter events for one
semester. Attendance shall be determined by point value placed on all activities
with points given out based on participation (note: attendance to all regular
business meetings will fulfill point requirements). If dues are not paid on time
or attendance not reached for the semester unless otherwise excused, member
shall be placed on inactive status for the following semester. If same
qualifications are not met for two consecutive semesters, member will be taken
off official membership list.
Dues: National M.A.A. dues are to be paid by the chapter officers and
is optional for all other members. Local dues for members of the national
organization will be half of the amount of the local chapter dues. Local dues
for member of the local chapter only will be determined by vote at the first
meeting of the semester. All dues are to be paid at the second meeting of each
semester.
Advisor(s): The chapter shall have an advisor who is a member of
campus faculty/staff to be chosen by the chapter officers.
Responsibilities:
to advise the chapter on all matters as needed
to attend all chapter meetings
to keep the chapter on task
to complete and mail the M.A.A. annual activities report for student
chapters
Officers and responsibilities:
- President - Overall executor, preside over regular business meetings,
conduct business in a manner beneficial to the chapter, appointment of committee
chairs. The term is one academic year.
- Vice-president - Preside over meetings in the absence of the President,
assist President in duties, set up special programs and presentations beneficial
to the purpose of the chapter. The term is one academic year.
- Secretary - Keep minutes of all chapter meetings and correspondence, keep
attendance, keep and updated list of all active members, publish a schedule of
all regular meetings and chapter events, register organization with the Office
of Student Activities, and update constitution. Term is one academic year.
- Treasurer - In charge of all financial matters of the chapter, collection of
dues, national M.A.A. registration, fund-raising. The term is one academic year.
- Historian - In charge of creating, maintaining and updating yearbook and
written history of the organization. The term is one academic year.
If the necessity arises, officers may form committees to assist with the
regular duties. In case of abandonment, resignation or other vacancies
- by the President, the Vice-president shall assume President’s position
indefinitely.
- by any other position, re-elections will be held at the next chapter
meeting.
Election of Officers: Election of officers shall take place at the
last meeting of the spring semester. Nominations can be submitted by any active
member and advisors. Officers will be elected by a secret ballot.
Constitution and Amendments: Chapter shall abide by all National
M.A.A. Constitutions and the S.M.A. Constitution. The S.M.A. Constitution may be
amended by a majority rule at regular business meetings. This Constitution and
chapter members will not be valid until a copy has been approved by the Student
Organizations Committee and placed on file with the Office of Student
Activities.
