During the French and Indian War, Jean led a detachment in the defeat of Braddock. In 1760 he let 100 militia to Fort Niagara only to learn that it had been captured by the British. He returned to Detroit where he was captured by the British in 1760. :783
He was an important man in Detroit. There was a great concourse of people at his funeral, with two priests officiating.
