One of the two copies of this photo is hand-labeled "Alice Louise Cox",
and the other is hand-labeled "Mrs. J.W. Landis, Hinsdale, Ill". Both
prints are machine-labeled "1878, Chicago, Illinois", at which point Alice would
have been 21 years old. Leslie Belais, clothing specialist at the Wisconsin
Historical Society in Madison, thinks this child's outfit dates from the 1880's,
suggesting that the dedications on the photos name the owner rather than the
girl in the picture. In this case, the pictured girl is Alice's daughter Louise,
born 1884. Jeanne (landis) Illian, in February 2000, compared this photo with
photo above, showing Alice Cox with a similar child, who would be her daughter.
