Email dated 2003 from historian Doug Campbell, formerly of Starksboro, Vermont
Tom:
I see from the chart on your home page that X. Robinson married X. Potter and
had two children: (i) Hannah P. Robinson and (ii) E. W. Robinson.
I have a Matthew Robinson, son of Christopher Robinson & Rhuhama Champlin,
1772-1821, who married 1802 Mary Potter (1782-1836) and had the following
children:
i - Maria b 1803
ii - Frances W. b 1804
iii - William C. b 1806
iv - Sarah Ann b 1807
v - Edward W. b 1809 <<<<<<<
vi - Hannah b 1811 <<<<<<<
vii - S. Ayrault b 1814
Your Hannah was born 1820 but ignoring that it would appear you might want to
take a look at the above family.

Per The Robinson Family - From the first Immigrant, by Leon V. Bushey
(1896-1986), 1975 (dwc comment - Leon was a former officer and board member
of the Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburg, Vermont. The manuscript (never
published to my knowledge) covers the Robinson, and related families, from
Rowland Robinson (1654-1716) to the present. I made a copy in May 1998 from
a copy on file at the Rokeby Museum. I was a Trustee of the museum at the
time.
per page 5-11 - "... Matthew, bn 1772; md Mary J. Potter 1797. She d in
1801, aged 24 years. He md 2nd, A Mary Potter in 1802. Mr. Robinson d in
1821, aged 49 years. Mrs. Robinson, the second wife d in 1836, aged 54
years ......"
per page 5-12 - " ...... The children of Matthew - ninth and youngest child
of Christopher and grandson of Gov. William Robinson - were:
1. John P. bn 1799; d 1801, aged 2 years. He was a twin brother to Rowland.
2. Rowland, bn 1799; md 1834; d 1859, aged 60 years; left children
3. Samuel S., bn 1801; md 1825; d 1874, aged 73 years; left children
4. Maria, bn 1803; d 1831, aged 27; was never married
5. Frances W., bn 1804; md Benjamin Balch 1842; d 1845, aged 41 years; left
no ch
6. William C., bn 1806; d 1827, aged 21 years
7. Sarah Ann, bn 1807; d 1832, aged 25 years
8. Edward W., bn 1809; md 1835; has no children
9. Hannah, bn 1811; md Edward Larned 1841
10. S. Ayrault, bn 1814; not married
(dwc comment - It appears that the above writeup is a direct copy of what
appears on page 168 of Recollections of Olden Times: Rowland Robinson of
Narragansett and His Unfortunate Daughter, by Thomas Hazard, 1879)
I hope the above helps.
[3rd email]
I do not have any info on the children of Rowland or Samuel. I have a
reprint of the Recollections book and I couldn't find any additional info.
As a shot in the dark - There was a Roland Larned in the 1920 US census -
living in Egg Harbor, Atlantic, NJ - age 71 b NJ - wife Nellie age 65 b
NJ - - -
Any tie to Edward and Hannah?
Regards, Doug Campbell (Starksboro, Vermont)

Subject: Hannah Potter (Robinson) Landis
Dear Vicki, Betty, Robert, and Doug:
You four people were honored for this email as a result of Roots Web
revealing that you have researched at least someone with the surname
Robinson in the state of Rhode Island.
I am seeking to learn more of a Hannah Potter Robinson (maiden name)
who married an Edmund Landis about 1842, then moved to Baltimore
and ultimately died in Chicago in 1901.
She was born in Kingston, Rhode Island on 16 June 1820, had a brother
"E.W.", and I have a few pictures. All is posted to the page
http://math.uww.edu/~mcfarlat/pictures/jwl-alc.htm
I do not expect any of you to tell me the life story of this woman,
or list her family history back to the 14th century, but if any
of you could give me a pointer as to how to approach her, I would
appreciate it.
Census records are unhelpful, there is no birth certificate, I have
her death certificate but it does not list her parents or siblings.
Her family is likely to have been well-known in Rhode Island,
and I assume her mother's maiden name was "Potter". Her maternal
grandfather may have been "Joseph S. Potter".
Help welcome, and at least thanks for reading this.
Tom McFarland
