Symbol

meaning
|
This symbol appears between a man and woman
who are claimed as the biological parents of the child or children
named below. The parents need not be married, though
most probably were. Some claims of parentage, of course, may
not be true, but in the absence of contrary evidence, the
claim of parentage will be accepted as the best available
picture of family structure. This symbol is used to indicate
biological parentage, even when (in rare cases) the child has been put up
for adoption and raised with an unrelated adoptive family. |
|
This symbol appears between two people, usually a
man and woman, who married but are not known to have conceived
a biological child. |
|
This symbol appears between a man and woman
who together adopted the child or children named below |

Currently, the above symbols are sufficient to render all of the hundreds of families
listed within this website. Other symbols might later be added, as need arises.
