A 2004 book on the Horan Family by Leo McDevitt is available in PDF format on CD,
but is being up-dated regularly by its author.
- Joseph John Horan, married Alberta Lucille McFarland on 6 July 1941,
died 3 Oct 1965. In 2003, his wife (Alberta Horan) corresponded with a relative of Joseph
Horan, namely Leo McDevitt, who studied the Horan family back to its Irish origins.
Leo McDevitt writes "the Horan file [...is...] up to 233 pages now and that's not counting
the present generation that I'm part of. I'm attaching [a photo of] James Horan's
gravemarker ["died Mar 11, 1885, aged 84 years"] to this message. James was the father [of]
William Francis Horan 1826-1901 and Grandfather of James Thomas Horan, (the father of Jack
the poet). So James would be the great grandfather of your husband Joseph. James didn't
come over at the same time as the rest of the family. He seems to have lived in the Ottawa
area first when he came to Canada, possibly working on the Rideau Canal. He later did join
the family in Albion Township, Peel County and from there moved up to the Irish Block in
Sydenham Township, Grey County, Ontario. This is beside Owen Sound. Anyway I will send off
a picture of James' mother's gravemarker as well from the same cemetery, St Michael's, in
the next message."
- Alberta Lucille McFarland, born 17 May 1918, married Joseph John Horan on 6 July 1941,
living at 410 Eighth Street South in Great Falls, Montana until 2012, at which point Alberta transfered
to assisted living in nearby Eagles Manor, room 508. Alberta was very interested in her family history, and
saved numerous photos and documents which were later used critically to extend the McFarland family
history well back into Ireland. Alberta visited Ballygawley in County Tyrone about 2001 with daughter Joyce,
and photographed the grave of her great-grandfather, though it would be several
years later when we could actually verify this relationship through birth records and interlocking Wills.
- Joyce Elaine, born 19 June 1943, married Jerry Lee Keller on 20 June 1964, with 4 children
(Jerry Lee Jr, Dawn Marie, Matthew Kirk, and Elaine Michelle) and 7 grandchildren as of July 2000
- Janis Mae, born 16 Jan 1945, died on 7 March 1956, alas. Janis was severely asthmatic, and
the evening of her death, was admitted to a hospital blue from poor breathing, was given
a pill to relieve symptoms but choked on it, went into a coma, and never awoke.
- Rosanne Jean, born 9 December 1947, married Dennis Morrow with whom she had 2 children (Nikki and Andre) ;
later divorced and Dennis died in the 1990's. Nikki has two children, living in eastern
Washington state as of July 2000
- Patricia Lynn, born 30 September 1964, married Robert Avritt bearing
two children (Mya L. and Robert C. Jr). Patty also bore one child Justin, born 24 August 1984 before
marriage : Justin was given for adoption at birth (born 24 August 1984), but is aware of his
origins, and attended Patty's 2nd marriage to Mr. White in July 2000 in Great Falls
