Jeanne (Landis) Illian, in February 2000, felt that the woman on the left is Alice Cox. The woman on the right could be Ella or Marie. The clothing dates from about 1885, and in that year, Alice was 28 years old, Ella was 30, and Marie 35.
Photo #29 (Alice Cox Landis with sister Marie ?)

A tin type. Jeanne (Landis) Illian, in February 2000, felt that the boy on the left is William Walter Landis. A similar photo appears in Sally's old photos, probably made the same day. I will suggest the other boy is a schoolmate at Racine College, where William was enrolled after the divorce of his parents. Compare with a later photo ?
Photo #31a (William W. Landis, left, and friend)

Print made in Sandwich, Illinois, but the original photo may have been made elsewhere, as Emeline Cox was assembling these images for her daughter Alice. The woman's clothes date from 1855-60. This couple appear to have 2 daughters. One possibility is that this is an early photo of A.M. Cox and Emeline, with the first of their eventual 5 children, namely Marie and Ella. Note that Marie was born in 1850, and Ella in 1855, a difference of 5 years; the children in this photo appear to be about 6 and 1 years old. See Marie as a woman? See Marie's obituary?
Photo #31 (Albert M. Cox, Marie, Ella, and Emeline Davids Cox)

Top photo (a tin type, about 1880) may be a joke, showing the 3 children of Marie (Cox) Adams, left to right: Albert (? dressed as a girl?), Lydia, and W. Vincent. Lydia seems trying to avoid laughing. Also see census data for these kids. The bottom photos are higher resolution scans of Alfred, Lydia, and W. Vincent, together with a baby picture made in Marseilles, Illinois. Thus, the baby picture must be Lydia's first daughter (by Fred Humphrey) named Vinette. See Lydia's obituary?

The single large undedicated photo on page 33, printed in Chicago, almost certainly shows Louise Landis (Alice's daughter) at about age 3.

Prints made in Sandwich, Illinois, in 1883. Could these be Roland R. Landis and Ella (Cox) Landis at about age 35. Clothing was dated 1885-90 for the woman, 1880's for the man. In 1885, Roland was 37 and Ella was 30. I have seen enough pictures of Alice Cox to be fairly sure the woman is not Alice, but Marie is not ruled out. Photo #24 (not reproduced here) appears to show this woman on a left page opposite to the page showing Edmund M. and Hannah Landis. Also compare with other pictures which may show these same two people.
