- Phoebe Ann Davids, born Aug 8, 1827 (probably in Fishkill, N.Y.),
Illinois. She married on Nov 5, 1845 to Dr. Valentine Mott Vermilyea
(1818-1906). Phoebe bore 8 children, including two sons,
Leray and Oscar, according to a will of Phoebe's brother
Henry. Two of Phoebe's children died in infancy. Phoebe died Dec. 28, 1874 in Sandwich,
Illinois, probably buried at Oak Ridge with her husband.
- Valentine Mott Vermilye, born in the township of LeGrange, Duchess county, New York, on the 4th of
April, 1818. He was the youngest of seven children, two girls and five boys, all of whom attained
the age of 83 and above, two of them reaching the age of 87 and 94. His mother was born on
Independence Day, July 4th, 1776, at Saratoga Springs. The mother was of Holland descent, the
father descended from the Huguenots of France. Buried at at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich. Illinois.
The family were members of a Quaker community. Graduated from the medical school of Columbia
University in 1844. He afterward studied law and graduated at Cleveland, Ohio, but having no taste
for the profession, he returned to the practice of medicine. On November 5, 1845, he was married
to Phoebe Ann Davis [spelled "Davids" in Agras] of Fishkill, N.Y. To this union were born eight
children, two of them dying in infancy and of the two oldest a daughter Ino died in Sandwich in
1882, and a son Larrey died in Sioux City, Iowa, January 1905. The four children remaining are
Mrs. Thomas Weir, Mrs. R.K. Woodward and Mr. Oscar Vermilye, all of Sandwich
["this city" in Agras], and Mrs. John Potter of White Sulphur Springs, Montana. He was a member of
the legislature for two terms, representing Kendall county. This brought him into contact with
Abraham Lincoln, of whom he was a close friend, and whose farewell address he was permitted to
hear. Dr. Valentine Vermilyea died on the evening of May 7, 1906, aged 88 years, one month, and three days.

- Kate Vermilye, born 24 May 1861 in Illinois, married John Potter on 26 April 1883,
having children John Vermilye Potter Sr. and Laura Bernice, both born in Montana. It is not known when or where Kate died,
but she in listed in the 1920 US census. She is person #550 in the Vermilye Family History
- Jesse (Vermilye) Woodward, born 17 January 1857 in Illinois, (age 23 for 1880 census) married Robert Woodward
on 19 July 1883
- Maria Vermilye, born 19 December 1852 (age 26 for 1880 census), married on 18 May 1883
to Thomas A. Weir
- Ino (Vermilye) Woodward, born 28 December 1846, married Robt. K. Woodward
on 28 December 1868, but died 14 February 1882. It is not known

- Larrey Vermilye, born 19 December 1847, married 19 July 1871 to Jennifer Barnes (born 1848 in Illinois). Listed in the
1900 Federal census living in Sioux City, Iowa, with daughter born March 1884 in Illinois.

- John Guy Woodward, born 1890 in Virgil, South Dakota; died 1974 in Livermore, California
- Charlotte Poulter Waterbury: much of her (English) history is known, but not yet to this writer
- John Edward Downey, born 1909 in Danville, Illinois, and died 1994 in Joliet,
Illinois. Both his parents were born in Ireland and emigrated as teenagers. John
Edward Downey's mother's maiden name was Sheehan.

- Mary Madelaine (Laine) Woodward, born 1914, served in the women's marine corps during
World War II. Madelaine's son John relates that "Madelaine" was intentionally
spelled this way to force her preferred pronunciation. Madelaine states that several
old families (Vermilye, Cox, Adams) moved from New York as a group, first settling in
Newark, Illinois, before coming to Sandwich. Madelaine died 5 January 2010 in Joliet, Illinois.

- Ruth Agnes Woodward, married Julian Osmond Cumberland, having 4 children : Julian (Joc),
Edith (Deede),Barbara, and William. William died before 2003.
- Robert Kennedy Woodward, married Ino Vemilye, but after Ino died, married Ino's sister
Jessie Vermilye, with whom he had 3 children: Robert Franklin (Frank) Woodward, Jessie
Woodward (Jr?), and John G. Woodward. It is not known whether Robert K. Woodward had
children with Ino. The Woodward family maintains its own website, but the URL is unknown in 2010. The
